Bible Verse:
“Pray like this:
‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
Let your Kingdom come.
Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’”

Explanation of Matthew 6:9-13
Matthew 6:9-13 contains what is often called the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus gives His disciples a simple but powerful pattern for prayer, showing them how to come before God with worship, trust, humility, and dependence.
The prayer begins with “Our Father in heaven,” reminding us that God is both near and holy. He is a loving Father who cares for His children, yet He is also the Lord of heaven, worthy of reverence and honour.
Jesus teaches us to pray for God’s name to be kept holy, His Kingdom to come, and His will to be done. This shows that prayer should begin with God’s glory and purposes, not only with our own needs.
The prayer then turns to daily dependence. “Give us today our daily bread” reminds us that every need is known by God. We are invited to trust Him one day at a time.
Jesus also teaches us to seek forgiveness and to forgive others. A forgiven heart should become a forgiving heart. Finally, the prayer asks God for protection from temptation and deliverance from evil, reminding us that we need His strength and guidance every day.
Reflection
Matthew 6:9-13 reminds us that prayer does not need to be complicated to be meaningful. Jesus gives us words that are simple, honest, and deeply faithful.
This prayer helps us put God first. Before we ask for our needs, we honour His name, His Kingdom, and His will. It teaches us to trust that God knows what we need, to seek His forgiveness, and to walk in forgiveness toward others.
The Lord’s Prayer is also a daily reminder of dependence. We need God for provision, mercy, guidance, and protection. Each line points us away from self-reliance and toward trust in our heavenly Father.
Today, let this prayer guide your heart. Come to God with reverence, trust Him with your needs, seek His mercy, and ask Him to lead you in His will.
Short Prayer
Our Father in heaven, may Your name be kept holy. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life. Provide what I need today, forgive my sins, and help me forgive others. Lead me away from temptation and deliver me from evil. Amen.
