Bible Verse:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it. There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light. The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him. But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Explanation of John 1:1-14
John 1:1-14 opens with one of the most profound truths in Scripture: Jesus is the Word who was with God in the beginning and who is God. Before creation, before time, and before the world existed, Christ already was.
John shows that all things were made through Him. Jesus is not merely a teacher, prophet, or messenger. He is the eternal Word, the source of life, and the true light who came into the world.
The passage also speaks about darkness. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. This points to the victory and hope found in Christ. Even though the world did not recognise Him and many rejected Him, His light could not be defeated.
John also explains the blessing given to those who receive Christ. Those who believe in His name are given the right to become God’s children. This new birth does not come from human effort or natural descent, but from God.
The passage reaches its beautiful climax in verse 14: “The Word became flesh and lived among us.” The eternal Son of God entered the world as a man. In Jesus, God came near. His glory was revealed, full of grace and truth.
Reflection
John 1:1-14 reminds us that Jesus is eternal, divine, and full of life. He is not simply part of the Christmas story or a figure from history. He is the Word who was with God from the beginning, the Creator of all things, and the light of the world.
This passage also reminds us that God did not remain distant. The Word became flesh and lived among us. Jesus stepped into human life, with all its weakness, pain, and need, so that we could know God and become His children.
There is great comfort in knowing that the light shines in the darkness. Darkness may feel strong at times, but it cannot overcome Christ. His life, truth, grace, and glory are greater.
Today, let this passage lead your heart to worship. Jesus is the eternal Word, the true light, and the Son of God who came near to save.
Short Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming into the world as the true light. Thank You that You are full of grace and truth. Help me to receive You with faith, walk in Your light, and live as a child of God. May my heart worship You as the eternal Word made flesh. Amen.
