Explanation of Exodus 3:14
Exodus 3:14 is one of the most powerful moments in the Bible. God speaks to Moses from the burning bush and calls him to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. Moses feels uncertain and asks what name he should give when the people ask who sent him.
God answers, “I AM WHO I AM.”
This name reveals God’s eternal and unchanging nature. God is not created. He does not depend on anything outside Himself. He is the everlasting God who has always existed and will always exist.
When God says, “I AM has sent me to you,” He is showing Moses that the mission does not rest on Moses’ strength, wisdom, or confidence. It rests on the power and faithfulness of God.
This verse reminds us that God is present, eternal, and fully able to accomplish His purposes. He is not limited by human weakness, fear, or circumstance.
Reflection
Like Moses, we can sometimes feel unqualified for what God calls us to do. We may focus on our fears, limitations, or past failures. But Exodus 3:14 turns our attention away from ourselves and back to God.
The question is not only, “Who am I?” but “Who is God?”
God’s answer is simple and powerful: “I AM.” He is enough. He is present. He is faithful. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
When life feels uncertain, we can trust the God who does not change. When we feel weak, we can rely on the One who is eternally strong. When the path ahead seems overwhelming, we can remember that the great “I AM” goes with His people.
Short Prayer
Lord, thank You for revealing Yourself as the great I AM. Help me to trust in Your eternal power and faithful presence. When I feel weak or afraid, remind me that You are enough. Guide me by Your wisdom and strengthen me to follow where You lead. Amen.
